What is a lien?
According to Black’s Law Dictionary, a lien is a claim, encumbrance or charge on the property for payment of some debt, obligation or duty. It has been described as a right or claim against some interest in property created by law as an incident of contract.  The Uniform Commercial Code provides for various forms of liens.
