RAILROAD EXPERIENCE

1969-1992 CSX Transportation (Includes L & N Railroad and Seaboard System Railroad, predecessors of CSX)
08/87-03/92 Road Foreman of Engines.  Supervised all transportation employees in train operation and all support personnel.
09/86-08/87 General Road Foreman, Central Region.  Supervised all road foreman and train service personnel in Central Region (Toledo, Ohio to Savannah, Georgia).
03/83-09/86 District Road Foreman of Engines.  Responsible for all train performance in assigned territory.  Supervised all road foreman in territory.
10/77-03/83 Road Foreman of Engines.  Supervised all transportation employees in train operation and all support personnel.
10/77-03/92 Operating trains over a large portion of CSX and predecessor railroads in the transport of all commodities.

SPECIAL RAILROAD ACHIEVEMENTS

  • Responsible for starting the position "Super Hostler", which eliminated terminal delay on the L & N Railroad.
  • Tested and recommended the purchase of the Vapor-Pacesetter device now in use on portions of CSX Transportation for the purpose of loading and unloading Unit Coal trains.
  • Tested and recommended the purchase of the end of train device now in use on CSX.
  • Was jointly responsible with other employees for consolidating various Train Handling and Air Brake Rule books with the formation of Seaboard System Railroad.
  • Changed the unit coal train loading procedures for the Cumberland Valley subdivision of the L & N Railroad.  Started loading coal trains down hill, eliminating as many as three locomotives from each train being loaded.
  • Was a member of the Derailment Investigative Teams.
  • Was a member of the Safety Committee, Corbin Division.
  • Was the Corbin Division coordinator for a study on undesired train line emergencies.
  • Was responsible for the annual re-training requirements for locomotive engineers using train simulators.
